World Kid Lit Month 2024 starts today! We hope you’ll join us in reading around the world and sharing your discoveries.
If you’re looking for reading suggestions, we’ll be sharing tons of recommendations on the blog. We’ve had a sneak peak at all the upcoming posts, and the TBR pile is stacked high!
Our book recommendations come from the super-talented members of our global community like Japan-based Holly Thompson who is an amazing verse novelist and picture book author. She introduces two YA duologies from Asia. Nanette McGuinness is not only an opera singer, but also the translator of many graphic novels–including Geronimo Stilton, Smurfs and Asterix! She shares some new graphic novels on grief.
Our Latin American book recommendations come from Bolivian author Mariana Ruiz, Spanish-English translator Ruth Donnelly, and the elementary school teacher we all wish we had, Lori of Kids Read the World! And this is just a sampling. We’ll be posting three times a week this month, covering as much of the world as we can.
It’s exciting to see World Kid Lit Month grow as more readers and more organizations pick up the idea. For even more international children’s and YA book recommendations this September, check out Global Literature in Libraries Initiative (#TaiwaneseKidLit focus this month), the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators’ blog where there will be global recommendations throughout the month, and the UK library association CILIP’s magazine celebrating diversity in children’s books, Pen&Inc.
We’d love to hear your recommendations, too! If you find a book you enjoy, tell us about it with #WorldKidLitMonth on social media or email us at WorldKidLitBlog@gmail.com.
Happy reading!
Jackie, Johanna and Kelly, your editors at World Kid Lit
