World Kid Lit Reading Challenge Award
The World Kid Lit Schools’ International Reading Award is a new prize for schools that run an innovative and globally inclusive reading challenge.
The Award aims at encouraging young people to read for pleasure, to explore international perspectives and global citizenship, and through reading in translation, to see the value of a second language as a cultural and creative asset.
The Award is open for entries in September, World Kid Lit Month, but schools can run their reading project any time in the preceding year. Full details here.
World Kid Lit Month
Celebrated worldwide in September, World Kid Lit Month is the time to read and explore international books for young people. It’s the perfect time to diversify the books available to your students, to include books from other countries and books first written in languages other than English.
You’ll find lots of ideas across our website, including ways to celebrate World Kid Lit Month. Here are reading prompts and bingo charts, and age-specific reading lists. We have hundreds of book reviews and creator interviews on our blog, introducing you to books from over 180 countries and translated from over a 100 different languages.
School events – with Stephen Spender Trust (UK)
From September 2025, we’re offering creative translation workshops, language tasters and read the world assemblies to schools across the UK, in partnership with the Stephen Spender Trust.
These are exciting, challenging workshops leading pupils from codebreaking to creative writing, using an award-winning scaffolded approach developed by the Stephen Spender Trust.
