World Kid Lit is a non-profit that aims to bring diverse, inclusive, global literature into the hands and onto the bookshelves of young people.
We believe in the power of reading to foster anti-racism, inclusivity and empathy. We believe in the power of world kid lit (world literature for young people) to broaden horizons and promote greater understanding between cultures.
We are a growing community working in many ways to raise the profile of world literature for young people in the media, arts and education landscapes. Our community brings together literature and literacy advocates, librarians and educators, translators and children’s publishing professionals from every continent of the globe!
Our main projects are
- providing international kid lit news, reviews and reading ideas here on World Kid Lit blog and social media (see here for ways you can get involved!)
- providing resources to support anyone of any age to celebrate World Kid Lit Month in September (see What is World Kid Lit Month?)
- events in schools and elsewhere bringing positive experiences of global reading and translation to young people (see Events)
- teacher and librarian CPD training on inclusion and diversity, and broadening book collections to include global perspectives (see Events)
- Read the World book bundles to schools and libraries
- World Kid Lit Schools’ International Reading Award – new in 2025!
As a non-profit community organisation, all funds raised are invested in our core work of improving awareness of and access to international literature for young people. We welcome donations of any size!
